  Alfred was known as Fred or Frederick. Fred possibly as a shortform of Alfred. When he signed up for Army duties in WW1 he gave his name as Frederick. The Croydon Borough School became The Crescent War Hospital in 1915. After the War, in 1921, it then became Selhurst Grammar School.
